The Annapolis Firefighters Emerald Society (AFES) was established in 2000 to promote brother and sisterhood within the Annapolis area fire departments.  With the express purpose of raising funds to assist our members - and area firefighters- and their families in times of need, AFES also raises funds for charitable organizations, and  promotes the Irish heritage that has an extensive history within the fire department.

 

AFES is a social organization and is open to both professional firefighters and supporters of fire departments.  While Irish heritage is not a prerequisite for membership, a strong desire to help those in need is.  We are an organization with over 100 firefighters from numerous regional departments. Our membership draws professional firefighters from the Annapolis Fire Department, Anne Arundel County Fire Department, United States Naval Academy Fire Department, Baltimore Washington International Airport Fire and Rescue, Prince Georges County Fire Department, Montgomery County Fire Department and the Howard County Fire Department, Ocean City MD Fire Department, and Fort Meade Fire Department. We also have members from outside the Annapolis area, and are proud to include the Los Angeles County and New York City Fire Departments in that list. Each one of our members is proud of the work they do for their communities and proud of the work they do for each other.

 

Since 2000 we have been able to donate thousands of dollars to charities, help our brothers and sisters in their time of need, and build the camaraderie of support that fire departments and emerald societies across the country are known for.  With such events as the AFES Golf Tournament that we host in partnership with Heroe's Pub that benefits the Metro Firefighters Burn Fund and the numerous smaller events the benefit injured area firefighters and their families, we look forward to continuing to provide for those in need.

The Annapolis Firefighters Emerald Society is a social organization of professional firefighters drawn together to foster goodwill amongst the brotherhood and sisterhood of the firefighting profession, both locally and nationally and to recognize the proud Irish heritage within the fire service.   Our charitable fundraising and activities will render financial, emotional, and any other available assistance to our members, our community, and our fellow firefighters.
